Loft style living in a small Kings Road flat

Making the most of small spaces is important - white is often a great way, and open plan clever design a must. This small Kings Road, London flat now feels deceivingly large now - like a mini New York loft!

AF Design crafted everything from the kitchen, built in cupboards to the shelving. AF Designs working in partnership with building company Edilco and architect Angelo Grasso.

Custom shelf lighting system

AF Designs have recently finished working a lovely Barnes home with interior designer Wayne Maxwell

Here one of the projects involved integrating LED lights into the shelving system. Andrea worked out a clever way of getting the LEDs to literally shine through the glass shelves.

Caught Light - as seen at TENT London

The Chandelier installation seen at TENT London contained 12 ‘fish’ suspended at different levels forming a ‘grape’.

The fish are clear resin castings of a form that was carved by Andrea. The fish have been cast by hand, and have a hand fashioned copper hook embedded inside them, which conceals a high power LED light. The LED highlights the organic and dynamic contours of the fish – representing a glow of life force – making them come alive. The hook is very visible – representing the brutal truth.

The fish are each nearly a foot long.

La Biennale di Venezia - Venice Biennale

I always find it hard to capture the essence of a piece of furniture in a photo - and ever more challenging are the installations at the Venice Biennale.
Here are however a few "snaps" of some truly inspirational pieces of art, that I have managed to hopefully capture a little (perhaps a very little) of their 'being'.

If you are going to make it to Venice this year - then I suggest you don't look!

The following images are from the Arsenale and the New Arsenale (which is a short hop across the a canal by a new boat service) only.  We will be back later this year to catch the rest!

The Black Arch : Saudi Arabia -A Must See by Raja and Shadia Alem

There is a wonderful video of the Raja and Shadia Alem on the La Biennale website (click here to see)

We were also very excited to visit the newly refurbished Port Building in Trieste on our trip - the building itself is breath taking.
